Landscape Collage Class

As a result of the art quilt meeting in January, many of the artists present asked about classes that they could take locally. I would be happy to offer a full-day textile collage landscape class to a group of 10-16 people. My earliest available dates are in late April, and May is pretty open.

Would anybody who is interested in a Saturday class in Ukiah please email me at fogg.laura at gmail.com

You can look at my website to get an idea of the kind of work I will be teaching, also see below.

New Art Quilt Group

As a result of our Art Quilt Explorations meeting early this month, a new art quilt group is starting up in Ukiah.  Art quilters and other fiber artists are invited to join a group with the goals of sharing, critiquing and showing work. They will meet at the Art Center Ukiah, next to Corners Galalery, 201 South State Street in Ukiah, at 7 pm on Thursday February 3 and on Thursday March 3.  Bring work to show. A larger art quilt meeting hosted by the Mendocino Quilt Artists will be held at the Art Center Ukiah on Thursday April 7 at 7 pm. For more information contact Catherine Reed.  Her email is   reed.catherine at gmail.com.

It's exciting to have another Art Quilt group in Ukiah and we look forward to sharing and connecting with other artists.

Notes from Art Quilt Explorations

This experience is too rich to not repeat it.
Could this be a beginning of sharing techniques?
Perhaps this group sharing could help us break out of our usual ways of quilting?
Could we possibly do workshops together?
Maybe we could share what some of us already know.
Maybe we could pool resources and hire a workshop leader.
It’s exciting to see others’ work and hear about each others’ journeys.
Lets meet regularly with challenges in between.
A few other groups could form with possible input from MQA on “how we did/do it”. Perhaps there could be sub-groups based on geographic closeness
The already established, blog could be a place to share photos and information.
The blog and email could “fill the gap” between meetings of the larger group.
There is interest in another Art Quilt group forming.   We have a list of potential members who want to start another group and Catherine Reed will explore future meetings.

Next meeting of the large Art Quilt Explorations group is:

APRIL 7TH @ 7PM. Location to be decided.

Art Quilt Explorations

The Mendocino Quilt Artists will be hosting an evening of Art Quilt Explorations on January 6, 2011, at the Grace Hudson Museum, Ukiah. Quilt artists in our area are invited to come and share work, ideas and/or techniques. We're hoping for people with innovative, unique and out-of-the-box ways that express their artistic vision in quilts. Since we are a small group, we are hoping this will be a venue for us to enlarge our connections with other artists working through the art quilt medium.

The evening will start at 6:30pm with the presentation of our quilt, Mendocino Woven Connections, to the Grace Hudson Museum. At 7:00 Ann Horton and Betty Lacy will begin the discussion and sharing of art quilts. Other art quilters are invited to bring one work to share. We hope this will be the beginning of more Art Quilt Explorations.

Mendocino Woven Connections was made by us, the Mendocino Quilt Artists as a tribute to our connections to other artists who have shared our love of this county. We were given permission by the Grace Hudson Museum to use images from some of Grace Hudson's work. Each of us worked on a panel, then all worked together to connect them and embellish them with hand stitching. We look forward to sharing this quilt and others made by members of our group and to seeing the work of other quilt artists from our area. If possible, send us an RSVP so we can give directions, plan for food, etc.

Please note I'm using the 1/6/11 date on this post so it stays first on our blog, but please scroll down and refer to older posts to see what we're doing.

Hope to see you at Art Quilt Explorations.
