CORNER GALLERY: Betty Lacy, Member of Mendocino Quilt ARtists is featured at the Corner Gallery in Ukiah.

Quilting allows me to explore a certain time or experience in my life that I want to communicate about. Immerse yourself in water, emerge from your mysterious journey and discover bottle caps, portals, and poems along the way. Creating designs on hand dyed or painted cloth with found objects, photo transfer, stitching and stamping, has catapulted me into uncharted territory.

Artist Bio: (education/training history or why you make art): Even though she has never been able to follow directions or sew a straight line, somehow Betty was hooked after she took her first quilt class in 1992. Her quilts are stories of everyday experiences inspired by found objects, dreams, poems and music. She chronicles these in her choice of imagery, texture and color. Paint, paper, bits of shells are welcome as are bottle caps, and catalpa pods. Nothing is off limits. She is a self taught quilter who loves to play on the creative edge. Betty’s quilts have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her work has appeared in magazines, books and film
